Our cycle paths provide picturesque experiences – cruise alongside the harbour, pedal past paddocks, bike on tree-lined paths, or tour through town by Porirua stream.
We have some great shared bike paths for the whole family to enjoy – Aotea Lagoon, Bothamley Park, Whitireia Park, Whitby Walkway, and the Ara Harakeke Pathway are particularly popular for biking with kids, with easy, flat tracks and no cars to contend with!
Ara Harakeke gently slopes alongside native bush and Taupō Swamp as it follows the railway line between Paremata and Pukerua Bay, making it a perfect summer day-trip destination for the whole whānau. With its easy access to rail, shops and beaches, Ara Harakeke offers you a fantastic outdoor adventure without giving up all your creature comforts. Do the track your way.
Park at a train station and walk, cycle or buggy one way, then train back – simple as! Dogs (on lead) are also welcome to join. Ara Harakeke is suitable for all fitness levels and there is plenty to do and see along this beautiful 8.7km track. So come on over, it’s all here!
These bike rides are perfect for families, with short distances and flat & sealed roads.
If your looking for something slightly more challenging, with longer distances and mixed surfaces, then these bike rides are for you.
Bothamley Park 4.2 km, 1 hr 7 mins one-way - Bring the bikes to Bothamley Park for an easy and relaxed cycle. Its wide gravel track runs alongside the Kenepuru stream and passes through mature exotic trees and regenerating natives.
Our waterfront’s a stunning place to relax, stroll or catch up with friends and whānau over a coffee or bagel. Here are some fun things to do while taking in the view.
