There is currently a 1.0km long section of Raiha Street that has a 70km/h speed limit, and the remainder of Raiha Street has a 50km/h speed limit. We propose changing the speed limit to have a consistent 50km/h speed limit along all of Raiha Street.
The key reason behind this is to promote road safety, as this section of the road has an increasing number of cars parked here associated with nearby walking and mountain bike trails, plus there are more houses being built in adjacent land at Kenepuru. With the expected opening of Transmission Gully, which has access close by Raiha Street, the traffic volume along Raiha Street is expected to increase.
If submissions on this proposal are received these must be considered before a decision is made on whether the speed limit should be reduced to be consistently 50km/h for the full length of Raiha Street.
Once submissions are received, submitters who wish to be heard will be invited to a hearing on Thursday 19 May 2022.
