Key dates

Friday 4 July 2025: Candidate nominations open

Friday 11 July 2025: Last day for electors of Māori descent to change rolls

Friday 1 August 2025: Candidate nominations close (12 noon)

Tuesday 9 September 2025: Voting opens (voting documents posted)

Saturday 11 October 2025: Voting closes (12 noon)


How Council Works - Orange

How Council works

Porirua City Council is made up of the Mayor and 10 Councillors. The Council focuses on issues that impact Porirua City residents and the wider community and provides some local services like:

  • Rubbish collection
  • Park maintenance
  • Animal management
  • Business consents
  • Libraries and pools


Enrol to Vote - Blue

Enrol to vote

You can enrol to vote if you:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Are a New Zealand Citizen or permanent resident
  • Have lived in New Zealand continuously for 12 months or more.

If you're enrolled to vote for the central government (parliamentary) elections, then you're automatically enrolled for local government (council) elections too.

Wards - Orange

Find your ward

The Mayor and Councillors are elected to represent their community's wants and needs. These are split across three wards:

  • Pāuatahanui General Ward: Four Councillors representing Porirua's northern suburbs
  • Onepoto General Ward: Five Councillors representing Porirua's southern suburbs
  • Parirua Māori Ward: One Councillor representing Porirua's Māori population
