Vote for what makes you Porirua Proud

The Mayor and Councillors make decisions that impact many aspects of your life and your local community.

There is no level of government in Aotearoa New Zealand that is more directly involved in the day-to-day happenings within your local community than your council.

That’s why it’s important for everyone to pay attention to local elections and to take the time to learn about the aspirations of candidates and their proposals for the city.

Democracy works best when the people are heard.

There are lots of exciting things happening in Porirua and the next few years will bring some unique challenges.

Huge shifts in infrastructure such as the implementation of Local Water Done Well policy and legislation are set to transform Porirua.

The challenges will be how well Porirua:

  • takes advantage of those opportunities for its community and businesses
  • listens to and understands what people care about
  • delivers efficient and cost-effective solutions that meet the city’s financial challenges.

Why your vote is important

Voting in local elections is important if you want to have your say on what matters to you. Council delivers many services to our community across the city such as:

  • the rates you pay and the services they pay for
  • the city’s economic recovery and investment in vital infrastructure
  • the quality of water from your tap and at your local beaches
  • monitoring and protecting our natural environment
  • arranging our cultural, family and sporting events
  • delivering play spaces for children and young people in our local parks
  • the local development and thriving community in the city centre.
