The elected members (Mayor and Councillors) all represent the different wards so it's important that you vote for someone who you think values your community.
Porirua City has three wards: two general wards which are broken down by suburbs and one Māori ward incorporating those on the Māori electoral roll.
In Porirua, we have three wards and 11 elected members (Mayor and 10 Councillors).
Two of these wards are considered "general" wards, being elected by those enrolled on the General Electoral Roll. The other ward is considered a Māori ward, being elected by those enrolled on the Māori Electoral Roll.
The Onepoto General Ward elects five Councillors who represent the following areas in Porirua City:
At the next local elections, all voters will be asked whether they wish to keep the Parirua Māori Ward or to disestablish the ward in Porirua. Elected members voted on 29 August 2024 to hold a poll rather than disestablishing the ward.

If you are of Māori descent, you have the option to vote on the General Roll or the Māori Roll. You can change rolls at any time and as often as you like up until three months before polling day.
The Parirua Māori Ward elects one Councillor who represents the entirety of Porirua City.
