Council wrap - 20 February

chamber

The first meeting of the full Porirua City Council for 2025 was held this morning, Thursday 20 February. Here is a wrap of what was covered:

First up, minutes from the last Council meeting were confirmed.

Porirua Mayor Anita Baker then spoke about what she’d been up to during the summer months, including attending the Summer Concert Series in Whitby; joining the Pukerua Bay Community Garden group to celebrate their volunteers; attending the Eat, Drink and be Crafty event organised by the Mana Lions Club; unveiling of new signage at Te Kukuwai o Toa/Elsdon Wetland with Ngāti Toa; attending the Zonta Club of Mana’s leadership awards; attending multicultural festivals for Lunar New Year; speaking with the Zonta Club of Mana about water and Council infrastructure; and welcoming a delegation from Blacktown, our sister city in Australia.

After confirming minutes from their final full Council meeting in 2024, Council heard a report about the future of the former Plunket building at Wairaka Park in Pukerua Bay.

After some questions on the paper, Council then agreed to consult with the public on whether the unused building should be removed. The consultation will open for feedback from 6 March and run until 6 April.

There were no speakers in the public forum.
