A meeting of the full Porirua City Council was held this morning, Thursday 31 October. Here is a wrap of what was covered:
First up, minutes from the last Council meeting were confirmed.
Porirua Mayor Anita Baker then spoke about what she’d been up to during the past month, including attending the Central Pacific Collective ‘Our Whare Our Fale’ launch at Castor Cres in Cannons Creek, attending Wests football games, Tuvalu Language Week, Whanau Manaaki Kindergartens’ conference, the Willowbank Quarry blessing, watching the Silver Ferns at Te Rauparaha Arena, attending the blessing of new Āhuru Mōwai Trust homes, watching Tokomanawa Queens basketball games, attending Fijian Language Week, Barbara Edmonds’ hui at Kenepuru Hospital, a Police Graduation ceremony, the closing of Pātaka exhibition Red Wave Blue Wave, the Kapi-Mana Music Festival, Niuean Language Week, helping at the Ngāti Toa harbour clean up, attending the Bizezi graduation, a national watercolour exhibition at Pātaka, celebrations marking Niue’s 50 years of independence, attending an event at the Mana Cruising Club, the Parliamentary netball game to raise funds for Āhuru Mōwai Trust, a Pukerua Bay Climate Hub meeting, opening of the Papakōwhai Rd shared pathway, the Girl Native soft opening at Kai Tahi, the Wellington Regional Sports Awards, Lions vs Bay of Plenty rugby game, and speaking to Graeme Dingle students.
After agreeing to recommendations from different committees since the last meeting, the Council approved the meetings calendar for 2025.
Next on the agenda, Council was presented with the Annual Report for the year ending 30 June 2024. After some questions and comments, they adopted the report.
Next on the agenda, Council agreed to continue with the development of a joint water services delivery plan and implementation plan, alongside other councils in the Wellington region. They voted to include an amendment from Councillor Hayward that a consumer charter also be added to the new water entity.
