Park.
The views are ka pai and the walking is easy on a newly upgraded walkway behind Ascot Park in Porirua.
A 1km stretch of Conclusion Walkway, from the end of Doncaster Terrace to Conclusion St, has been improved with new pathways, a bridge and upgraded entranceways.
“It’s now much easier to walk because we’ve bypassed the steep, slippery concrete sections with flatter pathways that have more natural surfaces,” says Parks Project Manager Phil Royle.
Eastern Ward Councillor Kylie Wihapi says there has been great feedback from walkers who have tried the upgraded track and found it much easier and more enjoyable to walk.
“It’s important that our walkways can be used by all our residents and visitors. This upgrade means walkers of all ages and abilities should be able to use it and enjoy the views out to Mana Island. It’s a great way to see our beautiful city and get a bit of exercise at the same time,” she says.
You can get on to the upgraded section of Conclusion Walkway from Doncaster Terrace, Sombrero View and Conclusion St.
Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash, and don’t forget to pick up after them.
The work has taken about two months and the walkway was reopened in early August. Other improvements, including signage, will follow.
The upgrade means Conclusion Walkway now runs from Whitford Brown Ave (just above the new Aotea Countdown supermarket) through to Conclusion St.
