Share your great ideas for Porirua’s future as we review
our District Plan.
Consultation has begun on the plan that will guide Porirua’s future land use and development over the next 10 to 30 years.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone from across Porirua’s communities to get involved and make their mark on how our city develops,” says Mayor Mike Tana.
“This is about how we plan for the future, and there are some big issues to consider like rising sea levels, life after Transmission Gully and how to grow the city while protecting the environment.”
“What style of housing will you need in the future and where should it be built? What transport will you be using? By working together on this we can continue to develop a healthy, well-functioning city for our young people to inherit. This is your opportunity to have your say” says Mayor Tana. ”
Ngāti Toa Rangatira is a key partner in the development of the draft District Plan, which is focused around six key themes:
· How we live and grow
· How we play
· How we move
· How we look after our environment
· How we reduce natural hazard impacts
· How we do business
Until 24 November, the District Plan team will be out and about talking to residents to get a sense of whether they are on the right track with the issues, outcomes and potential options, says Nicola Etheridge, Manager, Environment & City Planning.
“We’re
holding public forums, attending events, working with reference groups and
seeking feedback through an online survey. We’ll be encouraging people to make
their mark by doodling on big maps of the city to show where they want things
like new housing or transport connections.”
“All
of this will build on feedback we’ve already received through earlier District
Plan review work and help us develop a Draft District Plan that we will take
back out for consultation next year,” she says.
You’ll
find all the information you need, including when we’re in your neighbourhood,
on our Make your mark -
Porirua City webpages.
Everyone who completes the survey will go in a prize draw.
NB: The District Plan is about planning for future land use and directs how Porirua will develop while respecting the environment. There’s no money involved.
The Long-term Plan, which we will also be seeking community feedback on, is about what services our community want, such as libraries, parks and rubbish. It guides what we will spend money on, how much it will cost and how rates are set.
The two plans touch when it comes to growth, development contributions and infrastructure (roads and pipes) planning.
