Porirua people who made submissions on the Long-term Plan will have another opportunity to have their say at hearings in the Council Chamber next week.
“We’ve just wrapped up the Long-term Plan consultation where we’ve been asking what you want for our city’s future,” says Mayor Mike Tana.
“A big thanks to all of you who took time to tell us your views on what we should be doing and where we should be heading. It’s been great to get out and about and kōrero in our community workshops, where people could give their feedback directly to Council staff and elected members.
“We also ran workshops with our rangitahi – with primary school, high school and tertiary students all talking with us about the future of our city. We’ve been stoked to see so many submissions come through from our young people.”
The Council also had over 400 members of our community panel give their feedback in an online survey and met with a cross-section of our diverse community.
Other workshops and events focused on hearing the views of our older community and local businesses, and people also dropped in to the Council’s pop-up shop in the city centre, to chat about proposals or make a last minute submission.
“Lots of you connected with us online as well. Our posts reached more than 30,000 people and encouraged some interesting discussions.”
Consultation ended last month with more than 360 individual submissions received on the proposals in the consultation document.
“We’ve been in touch with the 93 people who said they’d like to speak to their submissions, and hearings will be held on 16 and 17 May in the Council Chambers. You’re welcome to come along and listen, even if you didn’t make a submission. We will consider everyone’s feedback, which may mean there are changes to the final plan,” says Mayor Tana.
The key decisions on the plan will be made by Council on 7 June and the final Long-term Plan 2018–38 will be adopted on 28 June and published on 28 July.
