Above: Mayor Mike Tana has a go at slacklining.
Porirua is taking on cities from around the world as we compete in a global challenge to have the most people balance on a slackline for 10 seconds.
The challenge will take place in Cobham Court in the city centre on Thursday 19 October between 4pm and 8.30pm and is open to all ages.
Porirua
is the only city in the southern hemisphere invited to participate in the
challenge issued by Gibbon Slacklines. To win, the aim is to get 1000 people to
each balance for 10 seconds, over the course of the event.
“We’re
up against cities all over the world like Milan, Berlin, San Francisco, New York
and Tokyo,” said Brad de Villiers of SlackCity Porirua.
“We
believe slacklining is a great sport for all to try.”
Porirua
Mayor Mike Tana had a go at the city’s previous night market, where slacklines
were set up as a preview of the October challenge.
“It’s
harder than it looks,” he laughed.
“This
is a really fun challenge and a great way to get our people together. I’ll be
there - let’s win this for Porirua!”
The
SlackCity Porirua team will provide the slacklines on the day and each
successful entry will be added to the total.
Competitors will be entertained by Whitireia DJs.
