Sun to shine for Sol3 Mio this Saturday

news - Sol3 Mio

Excitement is ramping up as we count down to Symphony in the Park with Sol3 Mio and Orchestra Wellington in Porirua City this Saturday.

Good weather is forecast for the big event, which also features Porirua’s Virtuoso Strings Orchestra, the Wellington Cannon Society and a 60 strong cast of Pacific Island drummers.  Newstalk ZB host Heather Du Plessis-Allan will be our Master of Ceremonies.

“This is going to be a night to remember. We’re so excited to have secured this incredibly talented trio to perform in Porirua and thousands of people from around the country will be joining us for the concert at Porirua Park,” says Mayor Mike Tana.

Sol3 Mio are tenor brothers, Pene and Amitai Pati and their cousin Moses Mackay – a  combination of powerful and moving operatic voices with a dash of Samoan humour.

“It’s going to be an incredible evening of high class entertainment and really something special for Porirua and the Wellington Region,” says Mayor Tana.

You can still buy general admission seats for $15 plus service fees online through TicketDirect, from Porirua’s Te Rauparaha Arena, and there will be gate sales from 2pm on Saturday.

Deputy Mayor Izzy Ford says the City is prepared for the thousands of people attending.

“To manage parking on the night, we’re running shuttle buses between Porirua Park and Porirua Railway Station where there is plenty of room for parking and easy access from the trains,” she says.

“There’s also parking for $5 at Windley School on Mungavin Ave which will be monitored through the evening.”

“It’s the first time we’ve held a big event like this in Porirua Park and I’m so pleased we’ve been able to bring such a high-class concert into our community.”

Gates open at 4pm on Saturday, there will be a Pacific Island drum-off from 5.30pm and the concert starts at 6pm. It’s due to finish around 9pm with the Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture and accompanying cannon fire courtesy of the Wellington Cannon Society.

A variety of food trucks will be on site. Plus there will be free sunscreen available and water to refill drink bottles.  You can bring a picnic, but it must fit under your seat and no glass or alcohol is allowed. All seating is provided.
